Our process

When a client has a pre-existing condition, or has suffered a serious illness in the past, the first thing we do is pick up the phone. We speak to Underwriters at many of the UK’s leading Insurance companies. Discussing all of our client’s medical history helps us to identify the best company to apply to. This also means we avoid applying to companies who will end up being too expensive or worse, decline an application. By completing our research thoroughly, we are able to avoid wasting time and obtain the best terms possible for our clients.

Our Client

Mr H. contacted us as he wanted to discuss his existing Life policy and add Critical Illness cover.

He told us that he was previously Diabetic, but through diet and weight loss had reduced HbA1c reading to the same level as a non-diabetic.

What is HbA1c?

HbA1c is your average blood glucose (sugar) levels for the last two to three months.

A high HbA1c means you have too much sugar in your blood. This means you’re more likely to develop diabetes complications, like serious problems with your eyes and feet.

Knowing your HbA1c level and what you can do to lower it will help you reduce your risk of devastating complications. This means getting your HbA1c checked regularly.

Once you know your HbA1c level, it’s important you understand what the results mean and how to stop them from going too high. Even a slightly raised HbA1c level makes you more at risk of serious complications. (Diabetes UK 2018).

The Outcome

After we researched the market, we found just one provider who were willing to consider cover. They offered an increased premium (standard +68%) to take into account a raised risk from his previous medical condition.

The final monthly premium for Critical Illness Cover with a sum assured of £30,000 was £66.67.

Our client is delighted that we have been able to find him Critical Illness cover as he now has complete peace of mind.

Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
